Researchers willing to access documents kept in the National Archives of Egypt should follow these procedures:
  1. Fill in an application form for a permit to access the archival units and collection in the NAE. For a copy of the application form click here
  2. Submit an official letter signed by the authority supervising the research, clarifying the research title and the historical period it covers.
  3. Two personal photos (if the application papers are sent by fax, photos are not necessarily submitted, and may be postponed till the researcher applies in person)
  4. Copy of personal identification (Identity card or passport)
  5. In order to access the documents of the Foreign Ministry or the Cabinet during the period post 1923, a researcher should apply for a special permit to be issued by the authorities concerned (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of Information, Estimations and Research, 28th floor, the Cabinet, Department of Information and Research).
