Researchers willing to access documents kept in the National Archives of Egypt should follow these procedures:
- Fill in an application form for a permit to access the archival units and collection in the NAE. For a copy of the application form click here
- Submit an official letter signed by the authority supervising the research, clarifying the research title and the historical period it covers.
- Two personal photos (if the application papers are sent by fax, photos are not necessarily submitted, and may be postponed till the researcher applies in person)
- Copy of personal identification (Identity card or passport)
- In order to access the documents of the Foreign Ministry or the Cabinet during the period post 1923, a researcher should apply for a special permit to be issued by the authorities concerned (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of Information, Estimations and Research, 28th floor, the Cabinet, Department of Information and Research).
